NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2025

Welcome

Thank you for subscribing. Our newsletter is brief yet informative, perfectly aligned with this shorter month.

The team remains diligently engaged in fieldwork and writing, so while the newsletter is concise, it reflects their ongoing efforts behind the scenes.

We are pleased to share news of a new publication as well as an exciting new role for Sarah Howard.

News

Congratulations

After Easter, Sarah Howard will be starting at the University of Bristol in the History Department as a Senior Research Fellow on the Leverhulme project ‘Welfare Citizenship and Intersectional Feminism’, run by Saima Nasar. She will be developing the work on kindergartens that she started at Birkbeck and looking at grassroots activism around childcare and caring labour in other African countries, which is very exciting.

BUT! she will not be leaving C3W immediately, as she will be staying on for one day per week until the 22 September. So it is not goodbye yet, and the Project team would like to wish her success in her new role.

“Stop looking north, look to the world”. Can we imagine Global Health without the USA at its centre?

Sebastian Fonseca and Cristian Montenegro authored a brief article that was published online in PLOS Global Public Health last week. The piece discusses the implications of the United States’ withdrawal from the WHO for the decolonizing global health movement.

Dora Vargha, Laura Salisbury, and colleagues have published ‘The End, and What Comes After’ in The Lancet.

This short essay explores what endings enable in terms of global health interventions, but which perspectives get sidelined or forgotten when the end is prioritised.
